Keynote Speaker for ORGULLO, a Hispanic/Latinx resource group at JELD-WEN, to wrap up their Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. I presented on the importance of Hispanic/Latinx representation in the U.S., the shift in Hispanic/Latinx representation in Hollywood films, from Spaghetti Westerns in the sixties to current superhero films. Presentation for Somos Uno, a Latin employee resource group for Tepper Sports & Entertainment, which represents both the Charlotte FC (Major League Soccer) and Carolina Panthers (National Football League). In collaboration with professor Shawn Bowers, we presented on National Hispanic Heritage Month by sharing historical facts, lexicon, and current data on Latinos in Charlotte and the state of NC at large. Service Work:
Worked with Latin American Student Organization (LASO) and the Learning Help Center of Charlotte (LHCC) for a Mentorship Night at St Andrews United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. Our goal was to work with the community and provide information about college to high school and middle school students. (1/24/2023)
Proctored foreign language placement tests for students at Queens. This was also another great opportunity to connect with students and recruit them for our majors and minors. (1/10/2023 and 1/12/2023)
Coordinated with Kristin Tokic from Student Life, Darryl White from DICE, and Lucía Galleno to be the Master of Ceremonies and showcased cultural dancing for the International Student Night during the half time of the Women’s Basketball Game. Due to technical difficulties, our part was cut short. (11/18/2022)
