Fall 2019 : SPN 310: Basic Spanish Grammar

The goal of this class is to improve students knowledge of Spanish grammar. We study especially those aspects of Spanish grammar that are more problematic to second language learners and heritage speakers. After completion of this course, students have a clearer knowledge of how the Spanish language works and in what ways it is different from English.



Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 : SPN 320: Cultural Readings and Composition

This course is designed to help students develop writing and reading comprehension skills in Spanish. To achieve this goal, we learn how to write summaries, descriptions, narratives, and expository essays. This course emphasizes the complete writing process.

  • Improve reading comprehension in Spanish.

  • Develop writing skills while correcting and improving student’s knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation in Spanish.

  • Develop a solid foundation of writing tools for creating summaries, descriptions,narratives, and expository essays.

  • Make better use of Spanish grammar, vocabulary and punctuation in order to write research papers in SPN advanced classes.



Fall 2017 : SPN 201: Second Year Spanish I

Intermediate-level review and development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Topics in the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.



Spring 2017 : ENG 351 Readings in Chicano/Latino Lit

The course is designed to foreground the distinct character of Chican@ and US Latin@ cultural production and to challenge continuously our ideas—those we bring with us into the class and those we develop along the way—about Latin@s in America.

  • Introduce students to the diversity of US Latin@ literature

  • Provide historical, social and cultural context for US Latin@ writings

  • Build students’ skills in argumentation through close analysis of textual 
evidence

  • Reinforce research skills through bibliographic research

  • Develop knowledge of critical terminologies (cultural studies, gender 
and sexuality studies, Chican@ and US Latin@ Studies, literary studies)



Summer 2016 : SPN 202: Second Year Spanish II

Further review and development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Topics in the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
